JSW Jaigarh Port
& POSCO-ISDC commence steel coil handling at the port
The two had inked a MoU
in Dec. last year
MV Florence D,
carrying POSCO-ISDC cargo, made her maiden call at JSW Jaigarh Port on July 18,
2014, under the agency of Parekh Marine, for discharging 824 tonnes of HR coils.
In December 2013, JSW Jaigarh
Port and POSCO-ISDC had entered into a MoU for handling steel coils of the
latter, which would be further transported to POSCO-Maharashtra’s plant at
Vile Bagad, Raigad District.
The recent occasion was graced by
Joint MD and CEO, Mr B.V.J.K. Sharma, Jaigarh Port Unit In-charge Capt. Jasbir
Singh, Mr Hiren Deshpande from Marketing and other senior JSW officials. From
POSCO-ISDC there was Mr Young Il Kim, Managing Director, Mr Abhijeet Kale, and
Mr Yang Jung Yoon, Managing Director of POSCO South Asia. Besides, Mr Ki-Young
Chun, Managing Director of Daewoo Logistics Korea, Mr Wan-Hee Park, Managing
Director of CJ Korea Express, Mr Lee Si Ho, officials from Parekh Marine, Capt.
Bhandari, Mr Hiren Ved, and officials from OM Freight (stevedore and CHA),
including Director Mr Harmesh Joshi and Mr Radha also marked their presence at
the event.
The cargo was expeditiously
discharged using shore cranes, without any damage, with the help of trained
manpower and strict quality control. All the stakeholders involved—the
shipper, the carrier and the consignee—were extremely satisfied with the
arrangements made by the port to facilitate efficient cargo handling.
The deep draught at Jaigarh Port
(14.3 metres) allows the larger ships (60,000 plus DWT) of POSCO to come in with
imports of HR and CR coils.
JSW Jaigarh Port has thus demonstrated its
flexibility to go the extra mile to meet its customers’ requirements and open
a new avenue for handling steel products.
