Maersk Line
scrapping vessel sharing agreement with CMA CGM on Panama-East Coast South
America service
Maersk Line is scrapping its
vessel sharing agreement with CMA CGM on the service that connects ports in
Brazil, Panama, Colombia, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, named NCX by Maersk and
Brazex by CMA CGM.
Alphaliner reported that Maersk
has informed CMA CGM of its decision and given the required six months' notice.
The joint service, which
commenced in 2009, currently deploys six 2,800-TEU vessels, with each carrier
providing three to call at ports in Manzanillo, Kingston, Port of Spain, Vitoria,
Santos, Paranagua, Itajai, Santos, Rio de Janeiro and Cartagena.
The service was created by
combining CMA CGM’s Brazilian Express service (Brazex) and Maersk’s North
Coast Express (NCX).
The report added that Maersk was looking for
alternative services to transport cargo to the East Coast of South America and
intra-America.
