Nepal seeks waterways, railways expansion to boost connectivity with India
 
There is a need to have a developed network of waterways and railways in the country, which can help achieve the potential of enhanced connectivity with India, said Mr K. P. Oli, Nepali Prime Minister, while taking an annual progress review meeting of the Department of Road under the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport here. In this regard, he directed bureaucrats to devise a plan to start steamer services near the Indian border. Although existing law permits streamer services in Nepal, such infrastructure has still not been utilised. PM Oli directed the officials to chart a plan to operationalise steamers from Hanumannagar to Triveni and Devghat. Besides waterways, he stressed on the need to add two new railway lines to the existing Janakpur-Kurtha line, said a report.
