Govt plans to make Major Ports competitive
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways plans to take steps to strengthen capacity and technology at the Major Ports to make them competitive against their private peers. Union Minister Mr Sarbananda Sonowal has asked the port authorities to make plans for developing them as mega ports by 2047. Along with the capacity building, he also suggested that the Major Ports draft land policy guidelines and explore the potential of having a presence out of their limits. The plans were discussed at a three-day annual strategy session that concluded this week, where the Ministry sets the agenda for the fiscal year. The government will also focus on the development of new technologies at Major Ports, as per a report.
