Sagarmala programme aimed at reducing  logistics costs: Sonowal

The Sagarmala programme is aimed at reducing the cost of logistics by increasing the capacity of ports through infrastructure modernisation and improving connectivity, said Mr Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, while addressing the 24th Biennial Convention of the Federation of Freight Forwarders’ Association in India (FFFAI) in Chennai. This has helped in lowering the overall cost of ports, reducing turnaround time for vessels, increasing efficiency, providing the ability to handle larger ships, and developing the strategic importance of Indian ports in the South Asian region. Due to better port connectivity and higher efficiency, India achieved record merchandise exports in 2021-22, added the minister, as per a report.
