India’s organic exports to the EU could face problems

India, which exported over $300 million worth of organic products to the EU in 2021-22, could face trouble once the EU shifts to a new compliance regime. It is feared that this move will jack up certification costs in India. The European Commission recently published a draft note with the aim of implementing stringent measures, starting in January 2025, regarding adherence to organic product standards in third countries. This EU regime change from process certification to product authenticity is a serious alteration in the ecosystem of organic agriculture, according to experts, which will merely allow exporters with neo-competency to survive in the export market, as per a report.
