Long-term contract on Chabahar Port with India in the offing, says Iran

A long-term contract with India for the operationalisation of the Chabahar Port project will be signed shortly, said Mr Mehrdad Bazarpash, Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development, while speaking at a ceremony at the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) here, held to commemorate World Maritime Day. He also emphasised that Iran has to complete the Chabahar-Zahedan-Yonsi-Birjand-Sarkhas railway line.

The Minister added that transporting goods by rail should be prioritised, declaring that the country will complete the RoRo rail wharf of Amirabad port within a year. Iran has 1,800 km of coastline in the south of the country, apart from the islands, which encompasses four provinces. Iran is the land of logistics and transit opportunities. In fact, Iran is both a transitway and a solution for world transit, he added, as per a report.
