Freighter operations to be suspended at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai from Aug. 16; part cargo facilities being temporarily shut down for airside works
In order to carry out multiple airside works, including building new taxiways for Runway 14/32 to enhance its capacity and bring efficiency in operation. Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) has informed in a communique that it will be temporarily shutting down part of the cargo facilities. This will entail discontinuing freighter operations from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) effective August 16, 2025 until further notice.
The communique explained that CSMIA is the world’s busiest single runway operated airport and the most space constrained airport. It is the only airport in the world to cater to 55 plus million passengers with single runway operation. Since MIAL has taken over the management of CSMIA, it is relentlessly working towards upgrading its infrastructure, optimising its resources to enhance passenger experience, and transforming CSMIA into a world class airport.
MIAL has always ensured that any infrastructure upgrade or additional resource creation is done in a fair and transparent manner. It had therefore carried out consultation through AUCC on March 13, 2024 on intended infrastructure upgrade, giving all relevant stakeholders adequate notice period, the communique added.
