MSC set to attain new global landmark

MSC is set to become the first liner shipping company to command a 20% global market share since Maersk in early 2018, according to reports in the international maritime media.
 
This has been enabled by a strategic expansion of the fleet over the past few years through a mix of newbuilds and secondhand acquisitions, which will take its overall capacity above 6 million TEUs this year, the first to surpass the figure, the reports said.  
 
MSC’s global market share stands at 19.9%, according to data from Alphaliner. It is the world’s top-ranked liner shipping firm.
